Obituaries
The Lake County IL Genealogical Society maintains an obituary file in their Genealogy Room at the Fremont Public Library in Mundelein. The obituary file mainly consists of obits clipped from the News-Sun from about 1950 to present- they are still filing obits from the past year. There are instances of obituaries clipped from other area newspapers. If the obituary is from a paper other than the News-Sun, the newspaper's name will be written at the top of the obit. If there is no newspaper name at top then it is from the News-Sun. The publication date should appear on all of the obits.
The genealogy room is open during normal library hours when a volunteer is present. If you would like to visit there to see the obituary file, phone first to see if a volunteer will be present. The genealogy room number is 847-918-3208. If there is no answer try the reference desk at 847-918-3206; they should have a copy of the volunteer schedule. You can make photocopies of the obituaries in the genealogy room for a small fee. If you are not able to visit the library the society will copy obituaries for $5 per page of obituaries. The number that fit on a page will depend on the length of the obituaries found. Be sure to send a SASE with your request. The address is: LCIGS, c⁄o Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein, IL 60060.
